We talk a lot about why it’s dangerous to have high levels of radon in your home. What most people don’t realize is that this is just one part of improving your indoor air quality. In a lot of cases, the indoor air quality in your home can be worse than the outdoor air quality.

When your home has poor indoor air quality, it can affect your health in a variety of ways. You may experience coughing, chest tightness, watery eyes & it could even trigger asthma attacks. It is also possible to suffer from frequent headaches, long lasting colds & bronchitis. The good news is that there are easy & economical ways to improve the indoor air quality within your home.

One of the first steps is to increase ventilation in your home. We have the tendency to keep windows & doors shut tight, especially during the summer & winter. However, the solution isn’t just to open your windows. This is because there are pollutants & irritants in the outdoor air, too. Things like emissions from cars can also cause irritation. Adding a trickle ventilation screen to your windows allows fresh air to come in & helps to escort pollutants out.

Another step, one that you probably already do, is to turn on your air conditioner in warmer weather. Since most culprits of poor indoor air quality are water soluble, the pollutants are removed when your ac runs. Air conditioners remove water from the atmosphere, which is why this works.

Finally, use HEPA (high -efficiency particulate air) filters. You can make your air handler more effective by using HEPA rated filters. These filters catch some pollutants and can help to increase your indoor air quality. If you want a double whammy of HEPA, look into using a standalone HEPA air cleaner. These are a great option if you have a particular room that needs improvement.

Improving your indoor air quality can make a huge difference in daily living. You can help reduce headaches, improve respiratory function & possibly even inhibit illness. "The technicians at Trinity services were extremely professional. It was a pleasure to open up our home to them. My wife and I were extremely impressed with how neat and clean they worked. A lot of contractors just don't care, but I could tell that Trinity was not one of those contractors."

Bruce – Naperville, IL

"I met Josiah last week when he came out to 310 S Rosedale in Aurora to consult with my clients about the house they are buying. I was very impressed by both his knowledge and wiliness to answer questions. Far too many in the trades are not quite so customer centric. In any case, it is my pleasure to recommend your company to other agents and to my own clients in the future."
