As we ramp up for the holidays, it’s easy to get lost in the beautiful lights & displays. If you are like many people, you may even get caught up in the decorating fiasco. But when you receive that December electric bill, the magic can quickly disappear. To help cut down on some electric costs during the holidays, we’ve put together a list of suggestions.
LED Christmas Lights
Instead of opting for the traditional lights, switch over to LED Christmas lights. Since these lights use about 90% less electricity than regular Christmas lights, you are guaranteed to have a lower electric bill. These lights can typically be found at any location that sells Christmas decorations.
Fiber Optics
There are a multitude of options for Fiber optic Christmas Decorations, from Christmas Trees to snowmen and everything in between. Since fiber optics only use one bulb, instead of several, the amount of electricity that is used to power your decoration will not affect your electric bill as much as something that requires more energy.
Use Timers
How many times have you gone to bed without remembering to turn your tree lights or outside Christmas lights off? Your electric bill definitely reflects these memory lapses. The best way to avoid this happening is to have everything hooked up to timers. If you don’t want to invest in timers, utilize some of your other equipment, like a cell phone, to set reminders to turn your lights off.
Use Non-electric Decorations
Before there were Christmas lights & dancing snowmen, people decorated with candles, wooden figurines, real pine garland & more. These types of decorations are just as beautiful as more modern options, but do not use any energy, and have no effect on your electric bill. Plus, they bring back some old fashioned charm!
Use Your Tree as a Light
Instead of having your tree lit up, the overhead light & your end table lamp going, let your Christmas Tree be the source of light. You are still using electricity, but you are replacing one source with another, hopefully impacting your electric bill very little.
Try implementing one or all of these suggestions this Christmas season. Your wallet will thank you! Do you do anything else to help reduce the cost of your electric bill?
